There are a number of options available when it comes to working out. From traditional weightlifting to yoga, there seemed to be a never-ending list of choices.
But what really sparked our interest in calisthenics and ultimately helped us start our journey was the opportunity to participate in a fitness competition called Bay Area Bar Calisthenics, Volume 3, that took place on Sept 18th, 2021 in San Francisco. We knew that we needed to train for a short period of time, and having a specific goal and purpose in mind made it easier for us to commit to our new fitness regimen.
Calisthenics, also known as bodyweight training, is a form of exercise that uses your own body weight as resistance. This means that you don’t need any equipment or gym membership to get started. All you need is your own body and a willingness to push yourself.
The beauty of calisthenics is that it can be tailored to any fitness level. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned athlete, there are exercises and progressions that can be adjusted to challenge you. Plus, the variety of exercises available means that you’ll never get bored with your routine.
One of the best things about calisthenics is that it not only changes your body but also your mind. The discipline and determination required to achieve new skills and progressions can transfer to other areas of your life, making you feel more confident and capable in everything you do.
In just 6 weeks, we saw a significant change in our bodies and minds. We had more energy, felt stronger and more toned, and had a newfound sense of self-confidence. But the best part was that we had fun while doing it.
If you’re looking for a new form of exercise to try, we highly recommend giving calisthenics a chance. It’s an effective, low-impact, and affordable way to transform your body and mind. And who knows, you might even find yourself signing up for a fitness competition like we did.
